Top 5 Simpsons episodes: Season 3

THATS RIGHT I'M BACK WITH ANOTHER! I love doing these because it kind of puts me into a safe space while going through seasons picking my favorite all time episodes, some are easy, some are a really tough choice, that's how this season went. So sit back, grab your Duff beer and take a trip through season 3! This season started in September of 1991 and ran all the way until August of 1992, a first for the show.

Stark Raving Dad

This episode was the season opener, and man it packed a punch. This episode will go down as easily being in my top 3 episodes of any season. The laughs, the feels, it had it all.

After being forced to wear a pink shirt to work Homer is declared clinically insane and thrown into an institution by Mr. Burns. While in there he meets the one and only Michael Jackson, so he thinks. After doctors take away his insanity label, Homer decides to take Michael home, who is there by choice and can leave any time. Word gets out to Bart and the entire town finds out and is well... pissed when it turns out to be an overweight white guy. But he has the voice, and the talent to be the one and only.

All the while Lisa's birthday is coming and she is afraid Bart doesn't have a present, which, is true. After breaking his sisters heart, Bart decides to work with the Michael man on a heartfelt song that can easily get stuck in your head all day. After helping the family it turns out that Michaels real name is Leon Kompowski and he is a brick layer from New Jersey, and the Simpson family helped him in ways he needed to heal himself.

Qoute:

Lenny: Hey, Homer we saved you a doughnut.

Carl: It has pink frosting.

Homer: Thanks! It looks- Hey, wait a minute! Just because I'm wearing pink doesn't mean I'm some kind of pink doughnut-eater! Although it is tempting.

The Otto Show

In another top 10 episode for me, we come to The Otto Show. All I remember after this is wanting a guitar... And a bus driver like Otto.

In this episode Bart gets a guitar after attending a Spinal Tap show, which made the episode itself, at first. After goofing off with Bart's guitar and playing a tear jerking rendition of Freebird, Otto crashes the bus trying to make it to school on time, losing his job. After all this Otto loses his apartment, and his mustard. With no place to go he picks a local dumpster to sleep in and is found by Bart.

Bart, feeling guilty, moves Otto into his basement where eventually Homer and Marge find out and reluctantly let him stay. Making a loafer of himself, and sacaring Lisa with stories, Otto eventually overstays his welcome and is taken away. Determined to pass his drivers test, he bursts into the DMV and in glorious feat achieves his "Probationary" bus drivers license.

Qoutes:

I couldn't pick just one sooo... here ya go!

Spinal Tap: I just walked out there and there’s puddles of water all over the freakin’ stage.

Rock Fan: Huh, I don’t want to lie to you boys. Six days a week this place is a hockey rink.

Spinal Tap: Yeah, well this is a rock concert, not the bleeding splish splash show.

Homer: This is not happy days and he is not the Fonz!

Otto: Ehhhhh Mr. S!

Spinal Tap: Well, it seems some silly twit did not get a big enough oxygen tank, but that's supposed to be a devil. Filled up with air it's very evil and impressive. We salute you, our half inflated Dark Lord!

Colonel Homer

In this episode we see the rise of Lurleen Lumpkin and catch some of her wonderful tunes she brought to Springfield!

After a bad movie experience, Homer drives miles away on his own in search of a steakhouse on a billboard, which... has burned down. He ends up in a dive bar with a singing waitress who touches his heart. She quickly attaches herself and Homer becomes her manager, to Marge's dismay.

Home begins spending all his time with Lurleen and it becomes a constant duo, Marge, worried about her marriage, decides to sit in on a recording session. Eventually Lurleen is invited to a live TV show and dedicates her song to Marge and Homer, proving her "disinterest". We all lived happily ever after.

Quote:

(While Homer and Marge are watching the underwater movie; Homer is watching the submarine ride slow)

Homer: That submarine is so fake! Look, he could see the strings. (gasps) An octopus!

Homer At The Bat

I guess season 3 was just full of classics for me. Maybe one of my top rated seasons. There's so many gags and also heartfelt stories, and then there's this.

In this episode Homer plays for the power plant softball team. In a huff, Mr. Burns makes a 1,000,000 dollar bet with the rival Shelbyville plant and gets the idea to bring in pro ball players to ensure his win. However when finding out all his favorite players are dead, he leaves it up to Smithers to find top notch players including Steve Sax, and Daryll Strawberry, who takes Homers spot on the team. The power plant workers are benched and their dreams of being champions are dead.

In a miracle move at the last minute, before the big game, all the pro players run into funny accidents, and run ins with the law. Everyone that is, except for Daryll and Homer is still benched with his homemade bat. After being heckled by Bart and Lisa, Daryll Strawberry becomes a bumbling baby and is taken off the field leaving homer to get smacked in the head while trying to figure out Mr. Burns wacky call signals. Thus, rendering a walk and the championship win.

Quote:

Mr. Burns: No, Smithers, I've decided to bring in a few ringers. Professional baseballers. We'll give them token jobs at the plant and have them play on our softball team. Honus Wagner, Cap Anson, Mordecai "3-Finger" Brown...

Smithers: Sir?

Mr. Burns: What is it, Smithers?

Smithers: I'm afraid all those players have retired and... passed on. In fact, your right fielder has been dead for 130 years.

Mr. Burns: Damnation! Alright, find me some good players. LIVING players! Scour the professional ranks. The American League, the National League, the Negro League!

I Married Marge

In this season you really started to come close and develop a relationship with the family. There are more enduring stories of the past and how they came to be and this is one of my favorites.

In this episode there is a pregnancy scare which leads to the story of how Bart was born. They flashback to 1980 and we learn the story of how Star Wars led to a heated romantic moment and thus, Bart was born. Knowing he needed better, Homer applies for a job at the Nuclear Power Plant. Being denied a job eventually all the baby furniture gets reposessed. This leads Homer to a very dark spot and he lives Marge thinking she wanted, and deserved better.

Homer gets a job at the local Gulp and Blow and is found by Patty and Selma after nearly choking on the hair in their taco that fell from Homer's head. In a fit of pity, Selma tells Marge of their discovery and she goes to look for Homer. He offers her an onion ring in a forever promise and marches into Mr. Burns's office the next day demanding to be hired for being "The best spineless employee" he would ever see. Homer gets the job and rushes home to tell Marge, who is already at the hospital in labor. After telling Patty off Homer stakes his claim in respect. Then he holds Bart, who promptly lights his tie on fire. And ladies and gentlemen, the Simpson family.

Qoute:

Marge: Homer, I've been thinking... if the baby's a boy, what do you think of the name, Larry?Homer: Marge, we can't do that! All the kids'll call him Larry Fairy!

Marge: Well, how 'bout Louie?

Homer: They'll call him Screwy Louie!

Marge: Bob?

Homer: Slob

Marge: Luke?

Homer: Puke.

Marge: Marcus?

Homer: Mucus.

Marge: What about Bart?

Homer: Let's see.. Bart, Cart, Dart, Eart... nope can't see any problem with that!

Aaaannnddd thats it! I hope you enjoyed this piece as much as I enjoyed writing it! Stay tuned for Season 4!
