American Thrills Release New Album Called Parted Ways

Connecticut's American Thrills have just released their album called Parted Ways. Along with a video for "Sinking". I have listened to this album a handful of times now and I think I can weigh in. We had the honor of speaking with this band a while back on the Punk Rock Geek Den and they opened my eyes to a better version of music for my generation of punk rock. Most of us have become family people who have to work paycheck to paycheck. You can hear this tone throughout this entire album. Songs for frustrated people handling life the only way they know how.

Every song on this album hits me in a certain way. It rolls my emotions into a nice ball and calms me down. This album can go from 0- 60, and I love that fact. The band knows when to sneak in an aggressive side to each song, the music is perfectly timed for the moment. I am a big lyric guy, and they didn’t let me down on that fact. These are songs I can relate to, each and every one of them. It’s like a soundtrack to my memories. You can hear the pain of looking back throughout each song. Everything flows together so well.

The vocals still give me the “punk rock” edge as I age. However, the music is well put together and melodic. They knew the exact audience they wanted to attract and went for it. The sound can be related to several bands like The Mezingers or Gaslight Anthem, but in my honest opinion, American Thrills did a better job and I am a fan of both of those bands. They reach me on the inside, and strike like a cobra into my memory bank. In the end, I don’t rate albums by number scale, but if I did this would easily be a 10/10. I will admit now I don’t like most ogcore, but this band is above ogcore, this is honest lyrically and timed perfectly. While most of my friends these days are into Chuck Ragan and Frank Turner, I’ll stick with this awesome East coast blue collar sound.
