The Scream franchise never really interested me very much. Most of the movies in the series, though memorable, were a one time watch for me. Not to say they weren't good, I guess I just always had better things to re-watch. I happily gave each movie at least one shot, and that Scream 3 soundtrack blew me away. So when all the big hype of Scream 6 came out, I was interested, not as much as some people, but hey, at least I was interested.
The problem here is if you are looking for something different, look somewhere else. Despite all the hype and the big return, it was a super basic movie to the franchise. If you decide to watch it, be prepared for the same old "whodunnit" and "shocking" end. I have learned over the years, that the person you least suspect in these movies, ends up being the person you least expect and blah blah blah. Even bringing back the return "fake body" idea they used in the past. I don't know what I was expecting, but it was something more than this. Honestly, I wanted to be shocked and excited and I wanted the hype to be worth it. I mean, they had New York City as a setting! So much could have been done here! It makes me kind of angry that I just sat through another basic scream movie after all the fun merch the theaters gave out and such. I wanted this to be different.
The cast is ,of course, going to get praise for their name alone but none of them really stick out as spectacular at acting. The Jenna Ortega trend is honestly just making mediocre content at best. Don't come at me with any flaming torches, again, this is an opinion and you chose to read it sucker! I won't say it was a terrible movie, there just could have been so much more. However, with the release and hoopla of Scream 5, another basic movie, I should have come to the party prepared. So I guess I can't complain in the end for my shenanigans, even if I just enjoy a movie once, it's a win on their end.
