OK so let's get right down to business. The slasher genre is my home, my safe place. I love a good zombie movie, and vampires can get boring... Slashers, however, get my full attention, no matter how bad they are. I have sat through some terrible ones just for a "good time". It's my favorite genre, and the slasher genre would not be what it is without Summer camps. They just go like peas in peanut butter (HA! I kill me!). Either way, there's some good points to this movie, and some points I would like to forget sometime soon.
Bloody Summer Camp plays out exactly as you would expect. A group of camp counselors hanging around to get ready for opening. They have fires at night, and tons of teen hormones flying around left and right. I mean, it's a total throwback, or "ripoff" if you wanna be a jerk. Set in 1986, it keeps all the beautiful points and cheesy slasher should have, it even has Felissa Rose, queen of camp killers! There are some creative kills, and some you could see from a mile away with their basic traditions, but would it really be an "80's slasher" if it wasn't borderline terrible? As highly as I speak of it, and no matter how much of a fun experience it is, there is some downfalls.
The downfalls did not come from anything the cast did. They were only following orders, however, some of the "cook" scenes make you wanna punch the guy, or wish a good old-fashioned death scene on him. Also, the two-hour run time left room for lots of dialogue, which I am not really a big fan of, but of course, if you read the other reviews you would find I have no problem with voicing discontent with dialogue-fueled movies. However, it made up for it when everyone you hate starts dying. There's even a twist or two in the story, which was also, very basic. I don't really know what I was expecting from it, other than a good time, which it was. But as you know, I can be a crab ass about everything.
I am glad to be a fan of this movie, I met everyone involved when they were still trying to raise funds and I got a whole bunch of cool free stuff from them, thinking I would never see the movie and it would just be a fever dream, but... It WAS released, they DID do it, and I couldn't be happier besides some grumbling about things that matter the least. So.. Do you love slashers? Do you wish we would get a real fun throwback? Well, we did! You can find this movie free on Tubi, and form an opinion yourself like we are supposed to do!
