As a young kid we had a "Horror sounds" record that I would listen to for hours at a time, with all kinds of terrifying music and spooky narration. Thats how the first few seconds of the Creepy Crawlers debut EP entitled Attack!, made me feel like It's a quick wild ride through all styles of fun horror-themed Rock and Roll.
The Creepy Crawlers have come out of the gate swinging. Their style varies enough to make listening enjoyable, even on repeat. Featuring members of The Jackalopes, and psychadelic horror rock band, Cricketbows, the band is led by Rev. Charles Wells on "Vokills, Guitars, and Mind Control." The band also consists of Scarika Watson on "Vokills, Blades, and World Domination" and P.J. Wells on "Bass, and Blunt Force Trauma."
Hugely influenced by horror punk and the occult, they drag you right in with catchy riffs and haunting vocals. I feel like I can fit right into this with the sound and format being more based on a heavier Alice Cooper album. Though it only lasts a few minutes, the songs will stick in your head forever.
Recorded in the back of a tattoo shop they all work in together, made into a makeshift studio and mixed and remastered by We Are Horror Records, they highly represent the DIY spirit we love so much. Also, telling from the developed sound there are heavy influences of dark music ranging from the 1960s to today. The band powers right through the EP not even giving you a chance to catch your breath from the last song. We simply can't wait to hear more from this band as they grow together. For over 13 minutes they assault your psych. Digging deep into your soul to give you chills.
The intro to the first track on the album called Crawl, is a foreboding warning as to what is going to happen next. It is pure and true to the core rock and roll, just in a heavier sense from people like Arthur Brown or Alice Cooper, and being fans of fast and heavy beats and ripping guitar riffs, I was sold into the melody. It's an evil, but fun ride. It will be on repeat for a while around here!
In the end it's a total win. With only a hint of horror punk, but a heavier side of good old-fashioned shock rock, every song is a winner in its own way. Something totally different, with a catchy melody, they stand on their competition with a crippling boot. For the final time, I will say it again, we can't wait to hear more!
