In my personal opinion, although they are gods when it comes to streaming horror, I am not a fan of Tubi Originals. They always seemed like they were still trying to find a place in the genre since almost all of their originals are horror related. I was surprised by this movie however and enjoyed it until the end.
What happens when you are the last thought survivor in a pandemic? Well in past years we almost found out. One day, the official virus will truly come to us. Until then I am glad we have movies to prep us for the truth of the matter. There is not even one moment in this movie that didn't have me thinking through the story. I am hard to please with new horror, I have been let down a lot in recent years.
Our main character in this movie lives on a strict schedule. His day is determined by strategically placed egg timers all around his safe house He is told when to eat, when to sleep, even when to use the bathroom. Why? Because he is a survivor in a time when the government would show their true face. You would think there is a world infested with zombies, and you may see one or two but this movie is strictly story-driven. It doesn't rely on gore or jump scares, it relies on the basic life of someone living through a full-blown virus that has taken out the population. His very life is on the line with following routine. He is an experiment, a survivor, and as long as he complies, he survives.
The camera angles also make this movie. It relies on the perfect angle at time to bring the element of surprise. As for the story, I said the movie was very story-driven. Without a great story, I feel like this movie would have never made it, the idea of reality being scary normally turns me off. I would rather watch a movie about slashers than what to be afraid of in real life. However, I didn't get that feeling with Eradication. I got the feeling that I was supposed to cheer the main character on, especially with the twist and turns throughout the movie. It did the impossible for me, and kept me interested and looking for more after the credits.
The acting is superb in the idea of real-life people. There was no scary monsters to worry about, there was no chemical to blame, nature just kind of took its course. In its path, it took out the real threat to this planet. There also wasn't a moment I actually expected throughout the movie. I came looking for the basic ass infected zombie, and instead found something much creepier.
