Once upon a time a man in a graveyard gave some of us nightmares. For me, it helped start an undying love for horror movies. The ghoul played by Bill Hinzman was relentless in his scene. Even if he only had about three minutes of screen time, his facial features and posture helped make the movie iconic. When you think of Night of the Living Dead, this is surely one of the first memories that will pop up.
It turns out however, that Bill Hinzman wasn't ready to let the character go, and gave him the screen time he deserved. Don't get me wrong, this movie is pretty bad, in a really good way. It was definitely shot on a budget and the one thing they left out of the budget was a talented cast. Some of the acting is so bad it hurts in the soul. The movie is also pretty predictable, however, it SHOULD be at least cult status. Even though there are no Oscar winning moments, and you could tell most of the cast forgot their lines, its such campy fun.
If you want a feel good riot of a zombie movie, I suggest Flesheater. If you need a multi million dollar budget and great acting, just turn it off, you will be the first people causing a riot online. The gore in this movie is pretty fantastic no matter how simple it is. The one thing that made this movie so memorable, is the dedicated crew and the love they put into a horror classic. It's no Romero movie, but it deserves its own star in the world of cult classics.
What it lacks, it makes up for in other places. Go into this one with the same love you would a Troma movie and see how satisfied you are at the end. Shot in basically one location, bad acting, a minimal budget, and if Children Shouldn't Play With Dead Things got s few fancy releases, this movie is also totally deserving.
