He Knows

Yes, its Holiday season, yes, I watch a lot of Tubi. I am glad I spend so much time on Tubi compared to other streaming services, my appetite for horror is always I skim through a thousand movies, most of which are kind of bad. I still love the search, because I would never find movies like this. I don't know what it is about psychopaths and Christmas, but they just work so well together. They've been doing it for years, so much that it is almost played out, but instead of the Hype of a robot Santa, I wanted to measure up with something just as eerie here. On today's slab for dissection is 2022's He Knows, a non-stop fun fest for b movie lovers.

OK so maybe I hyped it up a bit too much. In reality, its pretty basic, with a new twist on Christmas horror instead of Santa, watch for his elves, they can get pretty grumpy. The premise of this movie is that a masked killer elf, comes back with a vengeance years after a bloody rampage to finish the job. That's uh... that's it, its pretty basic in its slasher ways. However, I enjoyed this movie thoroughly, I can't fully explain the plot but the story doesn't stray away into a million sub-stories. The gore is tasteful in its practical FX and to be honest, there's a lot of comedy involved too. What it reminds me of, is a straight to VHS movie from the 90's, a lost art. The acting wasn't great, but at points it wasn't exactly bad either. Just don't go into this movie like a jaded jerk and base your opinion on the acting, that trend is dull. I wish we could just go back to enjoying movies.

Lynn Lowry still holds her place in horror history with this movie, as Sue, a worried grandmother while her daughter Christina (Kayla Kelly) goes to the edge of the earth to protect her daughter (Morgan Pyle) from the thing that stalked her as a child. It is a fun story for everyone involved, and cast some shining stars making their name in horror. I was honestly most surprised with the story, I didn't expect much, but they went out of their way while writing it striving to make it interesting, and they nailed that part.

Here's the only negative I found. The elf character reminded me a bit too much of a certain clown who just had a movie come out. His demeanor, the silence, the silliness in the character... it just seemed that they rode some coat tails on mask design and more, obviously influenced by more modern horrors like The Black Phone, you may say "Hey that can't be true because these movies also recently came out". Well folks, that's the movie industry, always trying to get ahead of the current big idea, by making a movie closely related to it. You may say the character is an "Art the clown" of Christmas... But the truth is he has a lot of learning to do with kill factors. They weren't that impressive, though they tried like hell once or twice, they eventually just gave up and started stabbing people. Could have done with more creative stuff, they had the talent and opportunity.

In the end give this at least one watch, I mean.. Tubi folks.. free... I am just trying to help fill your horror void. Stay tuned until next time!
