I went into this movie very wary. I found the description to be interesting though, and it led me down a very compelling path. This movie got under my skin in the worst ways, and not from the jump scares. It was something completely different from what i've seen.
The movie is based on the idea of mental illness. Having grown up with an undiagnosed mom who had plenty of issues, I learned what toxic was very young. I learned about crazy spending, or what happens when the repo man comes. There were times we had to bail her out of trouble with the sheriff. Thats how I grew up, and she passed some of that stuff on to me. Unlike her however, I devoted my life to seeking help because I refuse to let that side back out. My illness doesn't own me. That's how deep this movie cuts. Having a mentally ill parent, can be completely rough, unfortunately even my kids knew that at one time. However I changed for them.
The slow decline into madness also got to me. I know what I would be like without taking care of myself. I refuse these days to stop working on myself so I have no more slow declines into hallucinations and worse. so here is my...
*trigger warning!!!!!!*
This movie will make a lot of people uncomfortable. It's a tough watch, but such a good one. A movie that had me thinking the whole time. I can't say anything negative about it other than how hard it hits, but it hits in a sort of good way. The acting is fantastic in my opinion, sometimes it gets a little too real.
Also all my people who may be reading this but can't adjust to the new way someone else is living their life... There's "scary gay people" all throughout this movie. Watch at your own risk because men kiss and worse!
That covers it I think. The film locations are hip and also beautiful. The story will pull you right in and honestly, it's gonna scare you more than any monster ever could. I still feel the effects of how hard it is as I write this. You can find it on ubi, now go and enjoy it.. just follow my trigger warnings. There's a bit of comedy, and it's good horror from a new generation.
