Nervous Eaters: Monsters + Angels... An Awesome Surprise

That's right we are reviewing albums here too, EVEN MORE FUN! Our first review really caught me by surprise. I am a huge fan of new wave music and a lot of bands really fell through the cracks of that scene as it was taken over by MTV. So many good bands were lost in the flush when they should have been as big as The Stranglers. That's just my personal opinion. Also, in the age of streaming, a lot of bands have come out of the woodwork to give us more amazing music. I admit here and now that I was unaware my whole life of Nervous Eaters. I was taken aback by their sound, to another time and place.

We have to thank Mike from Earshot Records for introducing us to something that was lost within, good old fashioned rock and roll with a punk edge. Nervous Eaters have given us a new album after a lot of lost years. The 10 track album is called Monster + Angels and it is a throwback to a better time. Listening to this album, I was 15 again at 5 AM sneaking cigarettes out of my bedroom window and listening to the radio quietly, This album, track for track puts me in a good spot. The intricate tightness of the band, and the lyrics hit a new me, who was the old me.

Some may say heresy but they remind me of a really good dad rock band, there, I said it. You can hear all the best influences from The Cars to the Replacements. The first track Wild Eyes was the real blast from the past. I could see myself in another place. A better place. No matter how much punk and metal I listen to, I am always good for an awesome new-wave band, and I am happy to have found this one.

Each track on this album is completely different, you could tell a lot of love went into writing and it pays off so well in the end, it's not a band I could get tired of quickly. The music and vocals each set the perfect mood for kicking back and relaxing with some good tunes. In the end, I guess I can say... DON'T SLEEP ON THIS BAND OR ALBUM! There's something for everyone to enjoy. Rock and roll isn't quite dead, and bands like The Nervous Eaters keep it alive, in a time where its become almost obsolete.
