The Unborn: A Refreshing Tubi Original

I said before I wasn't a fan of Tubi originals at first. They were almost D grade movies and made no sense, or they were just too damn boring. However, I have been surprised a few times lately. They have really upped their game, especially for being a free service. One of their latest is called The Unborn, directed by Steve R. Monroe and starring Jade Harlow and Ella Thomas. I was very wary with this at first, thinking it was going to be another Rosemary's Baby type of movie from the description. But I mustered all my courage and pressed play. I am really glad I did. It was a refreshing surprise and gave me hope for Tubi Originals.

This movie starts strong and maintains that strength thought the entire movie. There is always something going on to make you think. I was most impressed by the original storyline. Even without an action scene the dialogue grabs you in. You can create a character relationship with the two main characters. Also for a Tubi original the acting is superb. Not that I care about bad acting, that doesn't really bother me for the most part. but I did take notice on how well they portrayed their characters.

The premise here is a pregnant woman, who is thought to be pregnant by her mother's evil spirit. The story is always understandable. That's all I can really tell you without giving away the entire movie. The difference between this and all the other "Satan's baby" type movies. It was always kind of a boring premise for me but I was completely surprised here and it's a movie I could easily watch again which I can't say for most modern horror. It had nothing to do with any of the personally boring ideas of chasing grief around while a jump scare occurs. There is a certain terrifying atmosphere as you are always questioning what happens next.

There is twists and turns all throughout the movie, and at all the right moments. You develop a distrust for everyone minus the main characters. The movie centers around not only a pregnancy, but also takes a common route of "demonic babies" however what they did here was take that old story and develop a more modern take. There are a million movies titled "The Unborn" but to me this is the one that matters. If you read this far... STOP, YOU SHOULD BE WATCHING THIS MOVIE FOR FREE!
